What a strange night! Emma had already secured a primo table near the towpath wall when I arrived. I filled her in on all of the renovation news; she filled me in on the "Susan" dilemma. Emma's latest novel had caught the attention of some staffer at the Susan Jeffries Show and they had approached her about being added to Susan’s Book Club.
As promised, Gus & Bobby arrived first thing and got straight to work upstairs; I continued with the front hall. I cannot begin to tell you how much I despise wallpaper! I should say old wallpaper. The modern stuff slides off the wall with a little steam, but his early 20th century stuff is impossible! What did they use to hang it? There is no way that wallpaper paste is still this adhesive after nearly 100 years. Super Glue has nothing on this stuff. I scored and scored, and steamed, brushed on solvents, you name it. This stuff just wasn’t going to budge.
Gus & Bobby came back first thing this morning to check over their work on the roof, and collect their check. Before they climbed into their van too leave Gus said, “Noticed you don’t have a bath anywhere. Let us know if we can help you with that at all.” As he spoke, Bobby turned over the magnetic sign on the side of the van. Mercurio Plumbing & Septic.
The weekend was pretty quiet. Saturday, I finished up painting the porch, raked leaves for a few hours, and then went next door for a shower. Logan was back to his friendly self, maybe he was just having a bad day on Friday. Anyway, after I imposed upon him yet again, we went to Vic and Irv’s for burgers and than decided to head over to the Seabreeze Drive-In. They were showing a restored version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, one of my absolute favorite movies. There is something really powerful about German expressionist film.
Friday started too early and ended way too late. I didn’t get much sleep Thursday night; kept waking up every 30 minutes or so because I was worried I would over sleep. I finally gave up around 6am and putzed around the kitchen reorganizing things until Gus and Bobby showed up around 7. Once they settled into their work for the day. I ran over to Chase-Pitkin for paint and brushes to start working on the porches. It took me about an hour to find the right National Trust shade of white, there were 32 to choose from.
